Underground Fuel Oil Tank Removal
All work involving Underground Storage Tanks (USTs) must be supervised by a TSSA certified Petroleum Mechanic 2 (PM2).
Any remaining contents in the UST are removed for approved disposal.
Before any excavation can begin, there must be “locates”. A locate is a map of your property showing where the underground infrastructure has been installed. For example, the natural gas, electrical and city water and sewar piping. Mannion Petroleum arranges for this service and reviews the locates before excavation day and then again with the excavating equipment operators.
Once the UST has been lifted to grade, an environmental engineering team collects samples from the excavation pit to determine if there has been any leak of petroleum product into the environment. If so, Mannion liaises with the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) and the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) and directs the cleanup procedure until the area shows no sign of contamination. The excavation is then backfilled with clean material. A report is produced for the property owner detailing the cleanup operation.
