Commercial
Industrial, commercial or institutional installations require inspections of the oil-burning equipment on a frequent basis by a TSSA certified technician. Generally, equipment refers to emergency generators, boilers and fire pumps which are regulated by the B139 Ontario Code.
If there will be a change of energy type to run this equipment, for example from fuel oil to natural gas, the existing storage tank will have to be removed by a TSSA certified firm.
Residential
Eventually, your fuel supplier and/or insurer will ask you to provide a written inspection report completed by a TSSA certified technician as to the integrity of your fuel storage tank and the health and safety of your oil-burning furnace or hot water tank.
Or you have decided to change your home heating from oil to another form of energy. This will require your existing fuel storage tank to be removed by a TSSA certified company.

Industrial, Commercial and Institutional property owners or managers at some point will be required to provide a Comprehensive Inspection based on the B139 code for their oil-burning emergency generator, boiler or fire pump. This inspection also called a TSSA Fuel Oil Delivery Certificate or B139 code compliance certificate and will generally be requested by your fuel oil distributor.
